“Euphoria” will look even more different than expected as star Storm Reid exits the HBO hit before its long-awaited third season begins filming in January.
The 21-year-old Emmy winner told Rotten Tomatoes this week that while she’s “very excited” for the new season of the “really special” show, she’ll be watching from the sidelines.
“Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning for the third season. But I’m so, so indebted to the cast and the crew of that show, to HBO,” Reid said of her character, the little sister to Zendaya’s Rue. “I’m so glad that that’s a part of my legacy and that I was part of such a cultural phenomenon. I’m forever grateful, forever indebted and I can’t wait to see what season 3 has in store.”
Reid followed her run on “Euphoria” with a guest-starring role on HBO hit “The Last Of Us,” for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
Nine-time Emmy winner “Euphoria” debuted on HBO in summer 2019 and concluded its second season in February 2022.
Though a third season was confirmed at the time, the show’s hiatus has worn on as many of its stars — namely Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schaefer — have entered a new stratosphere of fame. The four actors, as well as Alexa Demie and Maude Apatow, are among those expected to return.
But not every familiar face will appear in the upcoming season. Along with Reid, Barbie Ferreira also confirmed she was exiting the series.
Angus Cloud, who starred as big-hearted drug dealer Fezco, died in the summer of 2023 at age 25.
Deadline reported in March of this year that the Sam Levinson-created hit was once again delayed, with hopes to return by late 2025.
By July, HBO said production would start in January — a timeline confirmed last week amid rumors the show had been quietly axed.
